New Year, New You: How Same Day Smile Can Give You A Beautiful Smile This Year

Find me on:

Imagine walking into a dentist’s surgery in the morning with a smile you usually try to conceal, and walking out in the afternoon with a smile you can’t hide from your face. You’d be forgiven for thinking that is impossible or unrealistic, but with our same day smile makeover it is entirely achievable. In just one treatment, you can treat yourself to a beautiful new smile in 2021, and truly start the new year as a new you.

In truth, last year provided very little to smile about and 2021 has begun in very much the same vein. However, promising developments and actions to combat the Coronavirus are picking up pace and brighter, more conventional days are on the horizon.

In this blog we will discuss what a same day smile makeover is in comparison to other cosmetic dental procedures and provide our top reasons why you should consider a new smile in 2021. Hopefully soon, there will be plenty more things to smile about!

What Does a Cosmetic Dentist Do vs a General Dentist?

Cosmetic dentists perform dental treatments that help to improve the structure and aesthetic appearance of your smile, and your self-confidence as a direct result. This includes work on your teeth, gums and your biting movement. Cosmetic dentists can sometimes also perform facial aesthetic treatments, like dermal fillers, lip enhancements and non-surgical rhinoplasty. All of these procedures play a major role in maintaining your facial appearance and self-assurance.

The main reason most of us see our regular or general dentist, on the other hand, is for a routine check up and perhaps a professional clean. The purpose and methods here are all about oral health and hygiene, protecting teeth and preventing gums from decay and disease. The focus is not so much on cosmetics or your physical appearance. Whilst you should be keen to maintain a healthy set of teeth and gums free from disease and underlying issues, you may also want a confident and beautiful smile at the same time.

If this is the case and you would like to undertake some corrective dental treatments to straighten wonky teeth, whiten stained teeth or fill in the gap of a missing tooth – then a cosmetic dentist is what you need. Not only can they perform your general dentistry tasks, like cleaning and x-rays, but they can also help you achieve better looking teeth, with treatments like dental implants and same day smile makeovers.

This means that cosmetic dentists usually have additional training and specialise in areas that affect the look of your teeth.

What Are Some Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures?

  1. Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the quickest, easiest and least expensive ways to improve the appearance of your smile. This procedure can be carried out in the dentist chair, or your dentist may provide you with a mould and gels to whiten your teeth at home. Teeth whitening products are available over the counter in some high street stores and supermarkets, but they are nowhere near as effective or as safe as a tooth whitening treatment from a professional dentist.

  1. Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are used to correct tooth misalignment and improve the appearance of your smile. Modern composite veneers provide a life-like, beautiful appearance that is non-destructive to the structure of the tooth. In this procedure, a composite resin material is bonded to your tooth in layers and then hardened with a laser or ultraviolet light. It is then sculpted, shaped, and polished within your mouth by your dentist. The resin material is matched to the colour of the tooth being worked on for a seamless finish.

Composite veneers are particularly suitable and beneficial when there is damage to a tooth. The procedure can repair decayed, cracked, chipped, or misshapen teeth. The composite resin acts like a filler to make the tooth appear whole again. When it comes to tooth misalignment, they can also help to give the appearance of straighter teeth.

  1. Dental Crowns

Dental crowns may also be known as dental caps. They fit over your damaged or decayed tooth much like a cap or hat over your head!. This covers up or replaces the entire damaged tooth above the gum line. This way, you can regain the size, shape, strength and image of a natural tooth. One benefit to this dental treatment is that it can prevent a weak or damaged tooth from breaking any further. Dental crowns can also be used in cosmetic dentistry to cover misaligned teeth or discoloured teeth.

  1. Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays are used to fill decayed or broken teeth and are typically made from porcelain, gold, or composite materials. Unlike normal dental fillings, inlays and outlays cannot be moulded into place during a same day visit to your dentist. They are created in a dental laboratory and then bonded into place by your dentist.

If the material is bonded within the centre of a tooth, this is when it is called an inlay. If the filling includes at least one point of the tooth or covers the biting surface, it is then called an onlay. These alternatives to crowns preserve as much of the healthy tooth as possible.

  1. Dental Implants

Dental implants are made to replace missing teeth. They are replacement roots that are usually made from titanium and inserted into the bone where the tooth was. When the jawbone mends it will grow around the titanium root, securing it in place. This provides the foundations for a replacement tooth.

  1. Same Day Smile Makeover

Modern tooth whitening and composite bonding techniques allow the team here at Dental Excellence to make aesthetic improvements to your smile, in just one visit to our dental surgery. Complex preparation duties involving needles or drilling are not required for our same day smile makeover and the procedure is totally pain-free. Instead, a number of different non-invasive methods and treatments are combined to provide the desired results. For example, a same day smile makeover may include some composite bonding to repair a broken or misaligned tooth, as well as some teeth whitening.

Same Day Smile Makeover in More Detail

Our same day smile makeover starts with an assessment of your current set of teeth via an online or in-person consultation in our Liverpool, Manchester, London and Dublin consultations

In our quick and easy online consultation, you will be asked to upload a photo of your teeth closed together, and then one with them slightly apart, both taken from the front. Next, biting on your back teeth, you should take a photo from below and upload that too. The last thing you need to do is record a short video of yourself smiling and talking, so we can get a good look at your teeth.

The instructions throughout the process are really simple and easy to follow, meaning you can finish your part of the consultation within a matter of minutes. We will then look at your photos and your video footage to assess any potential squint teeth or tooth misalignment.

During an in-person, full case assessment, we will conduct a more thorough examination. At this point, we may take x-rays, scans or further photographs to provide a complete picture of your oral health.

Next, you’ll meet your assigned dental team to discuss your desired outcome and find out how to fix squint teeth, discoloured or misshapen teeth within your mouth. Our dentists are always on hand to listen and advise you on the right course of action to get your desired results, and always look to include you in all decisions related to our treatment plan. You will then have an idea of a cost estimate and the treatment plan created for you by the dental team. Most same-day smile treatments consist of a combination of composite bonding or veneer treatments and teeth whitening.

Now the plan is in place and the consultation is complete, we can deliver your same-day smile treatment in just one day! You can sit back, relax and listen to your own choice of music or watch a film whilst we work on giving you the perfect smile.

3 Reasons You Should Consider a New Smile in 2021

  1. Boost Your Confidence

A smile that you’re really happy with will give you a boost in confidence and make you show it more – creating a virtuous cycle of positivity. When we deliver a smile you’re really happy with, it will make you feel happier too. Squint teeth or cracks, chips and stains can affect your self-confidence and make you conscious about your overall appearance. With a same day smile makeover, you can combine a number of treatments to improve your smile and give you the confidence to show your smile off to the world.

  1. Fast Results

This is the quickest and easiest way to achieve a fuller, whiter smile. If you have a special event coming up, or require improvements to your smile urgently for any other reason, this is the most effective way of achieving them. You can combine both short and long term improvements so that you get immediate aesthetic results, and then any required longer-term corrections can be carried out afterwards!

  1. Better Chewing Movement

Missing or squint teeth can change your bite pattern and the way you chew. Our same day smile makeover is more focused on the appearance of your teeth and mouth. However, there are plenty of physical benefits too. Replacing damaged or broken teeth may allow you to maintain your natural jaw movement and/or a comfortable bite pattern, allowing you to chew your food comfortably and without concern.
